With everything roughed in, the desk was assembled. This required shims, rollers and patience to get everything in place and to achieve the look we are after. Now that everything had reached a certain stage, a meeting with the client was needed. At the next meeting we determined that a smooth area would be required as a working surface. This idea developed into a random design; flowing in nature. I carved down into the stone leaving areas natural, untouched in contrast with the smooth polished areas. Both surfaces would be separated by a beveled edge with a tooled finish.

Next the tops were polished and sealed. This is a very slow process; I start with a 30 grit diamond pad and work up to a 3500. Once the desierd finish is achieved the tops were washed and left to dry. Once dry a sealer is applied to protect against stains.
